Bouldering

No License Required
You do not need a license to go bouldering. Try it out and have fun! Your fellow MaasSAC members are happy to give you advice. We have organised "Training" Sessions at Climbing Corner for further advice from a teacher. Contact a board member for more information about when this is happening.

Climbing: Indoor Toprope

First Basic Climbing License
What is toprope climbing? During toproping, the climber is secured by a rope attached to an anchor at the top of the climbing wall. The belayer takes in the access rope while the climber ascends.

When you sign up as a MaasSACer, your first membership fee includes participation in the indoor toprope course. You will be taught how to climb and belay safely, and tested to receive an official NKBV certificate. No sign-up needed โ€” once you're a member, we contact you automatically.

What do you learn? Recognising risks, tying safe knots, belaying with various devices, falling and climbing techniques.

Climbing: Indoor Lead Climbing

Toprope License Required
What is lead climbing? The climber takes the rope up the wall and clips into quickdraws every couple of meters. The belayer has to give and take rope dynamically.

We advise you to first get very comfortable with toproping before starting your lead climb career. We offer lead climbing courses several times a year. As the number of spots is limited, the more active you are as a member (e.g. in committees), the better your chances! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Climbing: Outdoor Lead Climbing

Indoor Lead License Required
Wow โ€” you got hooked? Congratulations! You are ready to go outdoors. Climbing outdoors is the ultimate goal of every climber but it also comes with more risks, challenges and requirements. Our instructors will teach you how to conquer these challenges and safely climb outdoors.

Climbing: Multipitch License

Outdoor Single Pitch Lead License Required
The next step into multi-pitch climbing. Our instructors will teach you the additional skills required to safely tackle multi-pitch routes in an outdoor environment.

The Last Step: Instructor

There is only so much we can teach you and this is the final step we can offer you. See the world of climbing from a different perspective and introduce others to the world of rock climbing.
If you are interested in becoming an instructor yourself, please contact president@maassac.com

Do your shoes need a new sole?

If you are thinking of having your climbing shoes resoled, have a look at the website of Curada.ย

Check out the prices, select a sole and acknowledge the tips under 'When to resole'.

We recommend that you ask in the Maassac Group chat, if somebody would like to join the resole order. This way you will reduce shipping cost and protect the enviroment.
